Onions

Moonrocks grow, and specialise in, premium quality Brown and Red Onions. White Onions are often grown for special orders as well as Sweet Onions, a rare but popular category.

Moonrocks onions are planted in the months of May, June & July and grow for 5 months of the year, throughout Winter & Spring.

In the farming region of Western Queensland, the relative humidity is generally much lower than most other growing areas in Queensland, enabling Moonrocks to cure onions at a faster rate. This faster curing proves also assists with the formation of great quality skins resulting in a better shelf life. All of the onion varieties grown at Moonrocks are short day varieties meaning they boast a better quality with less pungency, less after-taste and less tears.

Once the onions have cured sufficiently and are up to the high standards in appearance and eating quality required, they are ready to be packed. Depending on order requirements, onions can be packed into 1kg, 1.5kg. 2kg, 10kg, 20kg bags, or for our special processing orders 1 tonne bags. We can also pack our onions to order in cardboard boxes and plastic crates. These onions are then cooled to lock in quality, while they are awaiting shipment.
